Lobbyists Win Congressional Hockey Challenge to End Lawmakers’ Streak
Captain Nick Lewis, UPS, Fidelity’s Greg Lowman power Lobbyists to first win in annual charity game since 2016.
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Lobbyists defeated the Lawmakers in the 2025 Congressional Hockey Challenge, ending a six-year losing streak in the annual charity game. The blow out win came courtesy of a hat trick from Fidelity’s Vice President of Advocacy and Policy Communications, Greg Lowman, and strong offense from the National Association of Gun Rights’ Hunter King.
Lowman got the Lobbyists on the board early with a quick spin in front of the net to tuck a puck in through the five hole. Steady defense and strong goaltending from both sides kept it a 1-0 game through the first period.
A quick backhand from the Lawmakers’ sniper Truman Reed from Rep. Monica De La Cruz’s (R-Texas) knotted the game at one to start the second period. After goals from Lobbyists’ Tory Mazzola, Orstead, and Lawmakers’ Billy Dwyer of Rep. Robin Kelly’s office (D-Ill.) brought the game to two a piece, the Lobbyists opened up the flood gates to take a 5-2 lead at the end of the second period.
The Lawmakers’ team received some offensive help from the honorable players hitting the ice, including FBI Director Kash Patel, Rep. George Whitesides (D-Calif.), and Kate MacGregor, Deputy Secretary of the Interior. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) provided leadership from the bench as the head coach for the Lawmakers squad.
The third period kicked off with a goal in the first minute from Lobbyist forward Jon Jukuri from the National Conference of State Legislatures, quickly followed by a power play goal from Lowman, giving him a hat trick on the night. An empty net goal from Jukuri in the final minute of the game sealed it for the Lobbyists, as they took to the ice to celebrate the blowout win.
“It feels incredible to lift that trophy for the first time since 2016,” said Congressional Hockey Challenge Co-Founder and Lobbyist captain Nick Lewis, who contributed an assist on Lowman’s second goal. “Team Lobbyist brought their A game tonight against a formidable and disciplined Lawmaker squad. I'll say again as I do every year: the real winners are the charities we support. I am already counting the days until the 2026 Congressional Hockey Challenge!”
“All good things must come to an end,” shared Tim Regan, Lawmakers captain and Congressional Hockey Challenge board member. “It was a hard-fought game, we just couldn’t get the bounces to go our way. I’m proud of our play on the ice, but even prouder of the contributions we’re able to make to our charities to bring hockey to communities across America.”
Since 2009, the game has raised nearly $1.5 million for charities including the NHL Foundation Empowerment Grant for Women’s and Girl’s Hockey, Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club, Washington Capitals Warrior Hockey, and the Tampa Warriors Hockey Heals event.
