Congressional Hockey Challenge Set for February 16 at Medstar Capital Iceplex

Annual charity game between lawmakers and lobbyists returns after two years

Washington, D.C. – The 2022 Congressional Hockey Challenge, the annual charity hockey game between lawmakers, administration officials, and staff versus lobbyists, will be played at the Washington Capitals practice facility, MedStar Capital Iceplex on February 16 at 7 p.m. ET.

Members of Congress expected to play in this year’s game include Reps. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), John Katko (R-N.Y.), Andy Levin (D-Mich.), Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), and Mike Quigley (D-Ill.).

Since 2009, the game has raised over $1 million for charities including the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club, USA Hockey Warriors Ice Hockey Program, Capital Warriors Beltway Hockey Program, and the Tampa Warriors Hockey Heals event. And new for 2022, the Congressional Hockey Challenge is partnering with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) to support the growth of women’s and girl’s hockey in America.

“The Congressional Hockey Challenge is excited to return to play after two long years due to COVID-19,” said Nick Lewis, co-founder and President of the Congressional Hockey Challenge. “We know first-hand the life-changing impact the game of hockey can have on underserved and veteran communities. We look forward to bringing this incredible sport to more people across the country through our great charities.”

"We know we must evolve the sport of hockey to be more equitable and accessible for everyone, and support for the Congressional Hockey Challenge provides us that opportunity each year,” said Kim Davis, NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Social Impact, Growth Initiatives and Legislative Affairs. “This year's event feels even more special because of our exciting new partnership with the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association as they make the sport more accessible for the women of today, and the next generation of girls in North America.”
